Trichomoniasis Vaginitis
Trichomoniasis vaginitis can cause atypical ASCUS Pap smear readings as well as cervical dysplasia and, therefore, underlines the importants of trained pathologists.
This condition affects both men and women. Men with this infection usually have no symptoms, but can have a urethral discharge. For women the symptoms are profuse, thin, yellow vaginal discharge with a strong, unpleasant, fishy odor. Vaginal itching and burning may also be present.

Some people can be infected for years with this infection without symptoms, while others develop symptoms right away. A microscopic protozoon called Trichomonas vaginalis causes this infection. It is contracted by sexual intercourse with an infected person, so it is considered a sexually transmitted disease.
