HPV symptoms - What is HPV?
HPV, the most common STD, is a viral infection, which means it lasts for life. Although HPV is treatable, it is not curable. HPV infection causes genital warts; however, some strains are asymptomatic, meaning no symptoms are present. This STD results in serious consequences, which may include cancer of the cervix, vulva or penis.
HPV symptoms - Common Signs and Symptoms of HPV
Genital warts are soft, may resemble cauliflower and will bleed easily if traumatized. Some warts can be flat and smooth, and many times go unrecognized.
HPV symptoms - Women:
- Warts on genitals, anus or inside vagina
- Unusual bleeding
- Vaginal itching, burning or pain
HPV symptoms - Men:
- Warts on penis, anus or scrotum
- Warts in urethra (might decrease urine flow)
HPV symptoms - How long before they might appear?
The incubation period for HPV can be up to 20 months. Therefore, an individual could be infected for almost 2 years without showing any symptoms, and they can still pass on the infection during the incubation period.
